Biblical Counseling

Wisdom from the Word provides biblical counseling to those who desire God’s help for life’s struggles. As a biblical counselor, my goal is to allow the bible to shape both the methods and contents of my counseling. There are several theological convictions that shape my approach.

 

First, a theological conviction concerning the superiority and sufficiency of Scripture. I believe that what God has given us in His Word, is far superior to the World’s wisdom that makes up the foundation of every secular psychological theory. 2Peter 1:3 says that God in his divine power has given us “all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue…”

 

Second, a theological conviction concerning people. A biblical anthropology teaches that humanity is comprised of a body and a soul. Both of these aspects are important, and each should be considered. The effects of a fallen world are experienced in both body and soul. That being said, my role is to primarily address issues of the heart and soul. Where physical problems are suspected, I will encourage you to seek the appropriate help from the appropriate source.

 

Third, a theological conviction concerning progressive sanctification. Progressive sanctification is the ongoing work of God in making Christian’s more like Jesus. Everyone agrees that people are in need of growth and change. The question is, what are we to be growing and changing into? The bible’s answer to that question is that God’s ultimate purpose for us is that we are transformed into the image of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29). This helps us navigate our struggles and set clear, God-honoring goals, as we respond to personal sin and suffering.
